Will Hillel try to convince me to leave?

Absolutely not!

We scrupulously avoid influencing people in their decisions about leaving the haredi world, believing, as we do, that each individual must make his or her own choices.

In fact, it often happens that our volunteers advise callers to remain in the haredi world when it becomes clear that their dilemma does not arise from a need to change the whole context of their lives, or when leaving would involve destructive moves they might later regret.

In Hillel you will find an open ear but no one will affect your decision in any way.

How can Hillel help?

The purpose of is to provide humanitarian aid and to encourage the development of individual potential. We seek to give our "new immigrants" the chance for a full life in the new world they have chosen, and the freedom to determine what kind of Jewish religious affiliation is most suited to their beliefs.

Hillel offers help in many forms:

0     Host families (when possible). Assistance in finding housing and other immediate
       arrangements.

0     Volunteers to accompany you personally in your adjustment to the modern world.

0    A world of social support, including contacts with other people who have left the
haredi world and with the volunteers of Hillel.

0     Help in acquiring a modern education, including consultation; private tutoring;
and scholarships for completion of the Matriculation Certificate, for university
       studies and for professional training.

0     Support groups and counseling.

0     Help in preparing for military service.

0    and more.

Rivky's story:
At first I have turned to Hillel because of the social scene - I wanted to be with people who knew what I was going through and who could understand me. Later on I needed more substantial help then just "friends". Then Hillel stood by me, even more then my real family.

Now, two years after I have made my choice, Hillel IS my family for everything that matters.
