Developing individual potential

Our goals go far beyond the survival assistance that we offer in the initial stages.

Our programs enable our young people to develop their full potential and to reach the levels of achievement that match their talents. To catch up to their contemporaries in the modern world without any family support is a formidable challenge.

It can be endlessly frustrating for our newcomers, in the formative years of their adult lives, to cope with the differences in their background, and to acquire the education with which to express their abilities and ambitions. It is especially exciting for our volunteers to see them "take off" once they have closed the gaps.

The economic benefit to Israel from the successful integration of the newcomer is considerable. Our young people become contributing members of Israeli society, bringing with them new talents and new ways of looking at the world.

Developing leadership potential

Many of our young people play active roles in Hillel in a wide range of positions: they answer the phone on the "open-line",act as mentors to new arrivals, participate in the work of the various committees that run our programs, help to teach the courses for new volunteers and serve on the Board of Directors. All of these activities provide them with ample opportunity to develop leadership potential that they can use in a wider context in their new lives.
