Preparation for military service

Members of the haredi world can usually manage to have themselves exempted from army service, but many of our newcomers realize that this is one of the obligations of a citizen of modern Israel and want to be drafted.

We believe that successful army service can play a key role in integrating our young people, giving them a chance to contribute to society and to meet Israelis from many different cultural backgrounds.

Hillel helps the newcomers in their contacts with the army and advises them on how to prepare for this new challenge. We accompany them personally throughout their military service and offer some of the attention and care that the families of soldiers usually provide.

We make sure that army authorities are aware of their special situation and lack of modern education, and that these factors are taken into consideration in all of the psychometric and psychological evaluations required for placement in army units.

Hillel also makes sure that the army grants our newcomers the privileges routinely given soldiers who have no family in the country or whose parents are deceased. The army now realizes that our "new immigrants" cannot return to their own families when on leave.
